JOB TITLE:
Design Intern or Librarian Intern

SALARY:
None

HOURS REQUIRED:
Minimum of two 8-hour days per week. Preference is four 8-hour days.

HOURS OF BUSINESS:
Monday-Thursday 8:00 to 5:00; Friday 8:00 to 11:00

HOURS OF INTERNSHIP:
Monday-Thursday 8:30 to 5:00

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Enrolled in Interior Design program at a college level with at least 75% of the required design courses completed.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS:
Interns need to be detail-oriented, organized and proactive with high work ethics. ENTHUSIASM for learning is mandatory and interest in the model home industry is preferred. Interns will be given the opportunity to work at an actual model home install in addition to their experiences on the design floor.

DESIGN INTERNS:
Assist a design team with current projects. Examples of possible learning opportunities include furniture, wallpaper and fabric selection, creating project folders and builder packets, ordering lighting and hardware, writing specifications and preparing for presentations.

LIBRARIAN INTERNS:
Assist librarian with organizing and obtaining designer resources such as vendor catalogs for furniture, wallpaper, hard surfaces, lighting, and fabrics. This is a great opportunity to learn the resources available which is critical to successful design.

SKILLS:
A professional appearance and demeanor are important in this position. Individuals must also possess a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Individuals must be able to perform the following: lift up to 50 pounds, bend, work on a ladder, prolonged walking and standing, climb up and down stairs and work in an environment that may have no air conditioning or heating. Possess a normal range of hearing, vision and the manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, copier machine and other office equipment along with the ability to work under deadlines and short deadlines.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS:
Individuals must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of people in a professional manner, mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a diverse clientele, capable of handling multiple tasks at once due to constant interruptions and complete them in a timely manner. A willingness to take on new assignments and remain focused on projects during hours is vital.
